IndyGo, the bus system in Indianapolis is getting 16 million. Awesome. As a rider and enviromentalist this is good news. No its not going to solve all the problems but it's a move in the right direction and shows the bus riding citiziens of Indianapolis were not forgotten. Nuvo said we're one of the lowest funded public trans systems in the country for our size. Well maybe if they make good use of this new money, the city will start seeing the benefits of a good transpo system.
The Skyline Club on top of the One America building had a face lift and is closer to being a venue to Indy's elite. It still has some old flare but most of it has been transformed into a ultra hip location to hang. They removed the hideous street lamps, upgraded the technologies and hipped up the place. Other businesses should follow suit and renovate from the old Indy to the new world class Indy. You've got till 2012!
I was shopping in the local Target one afternoon by myself with my daughter. She's a very good little girl but after a certain time frame she runs out of calmness and goes into freak out mode. She was in the cart crying and screaming to get out. It's too hard to let her out of the cart so I was trying desperately to distract her. The end was in sight...we were at the check out counter...still crying. I suddenly felt a hand on my should and when I turned around there was a lovely woman with long gray hair. I thought she was going to scold me on my childs behavior, when instead she asked if she could help me by unpacking my cart for me. It almost brought tears to my eyes. I'm so used to people looking at me in disgust when she throws a fit that it never occured to me that she would want to help. I was taken back. Thank you to whoever you are and thank you to people with the understanding of what it is to raise a toddler. That kind lady reminded me that most people have been in my situation but they forget and instead turn judgment. I will be that kind lady and help the stressed out mother...won't you?
I hit the Monon today like the majority of people and I realized something. The Monon is a middle finger extended to the recession. People were out. People were spending money. People were doing what they have always done. Shops and restaurants were filled. Broad Ripple was active. People want to be themselves. Keep it up Indianapolis and lets put this recession behind us and not let us effect our spring and summer.
The 16th and Meridian area is gradually improving. They tore down the burned IHOP building and started construction on a new CVS. I'm assuming this will be in place of the CVS on 17th and Illinois... cuz it would seem a little silly to have two that close. But at least that area is doing better. Just a few years ago it was a complete mess of disheveled buildings, crack dealers, and basic ugliness. Now, Herron Arts is expanding and quality businesses are going up. Now I just hope somebody does something with that huge apartment complex. Didn't somebody buy that like a year ago and have a biggo plan for renovation? I remember reading it in IBJ.
Mass Ave Toys, the toy store on Mass ave is a child's dream. There are robots to wind,
dolls to hold, and mustaches to wear. I spent 2 hours in the store with my child on a rainy
day just having fun. The owner of the store is near by for suggestions on toys for different
age groups. The prices might be a little steep but when you buy a toy you're supporting a place
that make dreams come true and that brings out the inner child in plenty of adults.
